The American Ukrainian Aid Foundation, together with dedicated teams in the United States and Ukraine, successfully organized two Back-to-School events for Ukrainian children who have lost a parent or been displaced by the war.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we raised enough funds to help more than 250 children start the school year with confidence and joy. Each child received a backpack filled with essential school supplies — a simple gift that offered practical support and carried a powerful message of compassion and hope.
The events took place in the remote cities of Zolotonosha and Smila, where the children were welcomed with music, games, food, and sweets. Ukrainian songs played throughout the day, with many children singing along — reminding everyone that despite the hardships of war, the joy of childhood and the spirit of Ukraine remain strong.
Delivering these supplies was not without challenges. The ongoing war created delays for our first event in Smila. Thanks to the quick action of our Ukrainian team, backpacks were sourced locally so that no child was left out. For the second event, we successfully delivered the planned yellow and blue backpacks — proudly reflecting the colors of Ukraine — filled with everything needed for the new school year.
Beyond providing school supplies, these gatherings offered the children a sense of hope, encouragement, and the reassurance that they are not alone. In a time when war has stolen so much of their childhood, these moments of laughter and unity reminded the children that they are not forgotten — and that brighter, safer days lie ahead.
We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who made these events possible. Your kindness continues to bring light, strength, and hope to Ukraine’s most vulnerable children.
